Projection-Based Virtual Production

In virtual production, projection-based workflows replace LED walls or green screen by displaying high-resolution, real-world imagery directly onto physical screens surrounding the set. At Igelkott Studios, we design and operate these systems together with Vello Hermann, using our One-Lens 16K360 Capture plates and Barco Projection ICVFX to create immersive environments with perfect perspective, natural reflections, and accurate environmental light, all captured in-camera.

Why Producers Choose Projection
Over LED

Compared to LED, projection eliminates pixel structure and moiré while delivering smooth motion and fidelity in shadow detail. Unlike green screen, it allows actors and crew to see and interact with the environment in real time, capturing reflections, lighting shifts, and depth directly in the shot.

  •

LED walls can introduce common on-set problems:

  • Moire patterns and scanlines when in focus.

  • Black crush and loss of shadow detail occur if the pixels are driven linearly.

  • Color shift based on viewing angle, most noticeable in reflections.

These artifacts can force costly post-fixes or compromise the image entirely. Projection avoids these pitfalls, allowing you to focus on performance and cinematography rather than fighting display limitations.
